Innovation by Design: Developing Breakthrough Ideas and Cultures of Innovation

Lead innovative projects or drive cultural transformation within your organization

This course offers an in-depth introduction to design thinking and innovation, providing tools to develop, implement, and evaluate impactful projects across disciplines. Drawing from MIT’s practices and a proven 12-step innovation process, the course balances individual creativity with fostering organizational innovation culture. Students engage in an interactive, iterative design process to identify opportunities, solve complex problems, and create meaningful solutions.

The program is ideal for individuals looking to lead innovative projects or drive cultural transformation within their organizations. By the end of the course, students will have the confidence and skills to become agents of change, capable of tackling complex challenges with creativity, insight, and strategic vision.

This course is part of the Insper International Week, which is a short-term program designed to provide students with a unique opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills in various topics of the business world in classes with international and Insper professors.

O que você precisa saber

Perfil

The program is aimed at senior professionals, executives, entrepreneurs, consultants, and decision-makers with over 5 years of professional experience, experience in management, and varied backgrounds in different areas and sectors of the economy.

Pré-requisitos

Completed higher education degree. Classes will be conducted in English without simultaneous translation. Although no proficiency test is required, we recommend B2 level to fully engage with the program.

O que você vai aprender

Welcome Event

  • Introduction to the 2025 Insper International Week;
  • Brazilian Cultural Experience.

Day 1: The 12-step innovation process

  • Innovation definition and drivers;
  • The 3-component innovation model;
  • Innovation theory;
  • Introduction to the Blade Kotelly 12-step process.

Day 2-5:

  • Deep dive into steps 2-5 (needs analysis, research, stakeholder analysis);
  • Steps 6-10 (outcomes, concept generation and articulation);
  • Steps 11-12 (uncertainty reduction, launch decisions);
  • Final presentations and feedback.

Course Dynamics

  • Highly interactive format featuring:
    • 12+ small group breakout sessions;
    • Group project development;
    • Project presentations;
    • Collaborative learning environment.

Evaluation

  • 50%: Individual assignments;
  • 40%: Group project development and presentation;
  • 10%: Class participation.
